We are happy to announce that a paper entitled Therapeutic chatbots as cognitive-affective artifacts by J.P. Grodniewicz & Mateusz Hohol has just been published in Topoi's special issue on Affectivity and Technology (Eds. Marco Fasoli, Richard Heersmink and Giulia Piredda)!
The paper explores the role of Conversational Artificial Intelligence (CAI) systems, or chatbots, in mental health care, recognizing their potential to transform psychological support. By leveraging the concepts of cognitive and affective artifacts, the authors argue that therapeutic CAIs function as cognitive-affective artifacts, which sheds light on the prevalence of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy principles in existing mental health CAIs and provides insights into their potential and limitations in therapy.
